Stamp Stories from around the world

Basutoland was a British Crown colony that existed from 1884 to 1966 in present-day Lesotho. Stamps from Cape of Good Hope were used in Basutoland from 1876 until 1910. From 1910 until 1933 stamps from South Africa were used. The first stamps of Basutoland were definitive stamps issued in 1933 and were a set of ten stamps with the same design depicting King George V and the Nile Crocodile against a background of mountains. Todays stamp is the ½ pence stamp from the first issue in 1933.
