The Maine Coon is a long-haired cat. It originally originates from the New England area in the north-eastern United States, including the state of Maine, from which the cat takes its name. It is considered to be the first cat breed in the United States, but its origins are unclear. The cats were valued for their abilities as mouse catchers.
